I started playing music
when I was but a kid
they made me practice every day
to ride my bike they did forbid
but they forgot to tell me
I'd have to get a trade
forget all the songs that I wrote
if I wanted to get paid

I know I've got to do it
gotta pay my dues
need to show up every day
or sing the money blues
I've gotta make the effort
be productive and efficient
otherwise I might go hungry
